About Us

Bethel Fife and Drum is a local chapter, of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR or DAR) and the Pennsylvania State Society Daughters of the American Revolution (PSSDAR), serving the greater South Hills of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

Who We Are

We are a group of women who are enriched by our DAR friendships and desires to serve our communities, to learn our national history, to be informed about contemporary issues affecting our communities and country, and to promote patriotism, education, and historic preservation in southwestern Pennsylvania. Our chapter has members from communities throughout the greater South Hills of Pittsburgh, such as Bethel Park, Castle Shannon, Mt. Lebanon, Upper St. Clair, Peters Township, Jefferson Hills, Canonsburg, South Park, and Houston, Pennsylvania. We welcome prospective members and DAR members who are relocating to our area and would be delighted to talk with you.

Our History

Bethel Fife and Drum Chapter, NSDAR, was organized in October 1978 and merged with Canonsburg Chapter in April 1992. The chapter is named for the Bethel Presbyterian Church, which is the first church of that persuasion in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania. In the Bethel Presbyterian Church cemetery, fourteen American Revolutionary War soldiers are interred, three of whom carried the surname Fife. The church and cemetery are located on Bethel Church Road, Bethel Park, Pennsylvania.

Our chapter name highlights the historical roots of our area of Western Pennsylvania and honors the service of the American Revolutionary patriots from this region who helped our country gain its independence.
